Statistical surface physics: a perspective via computer simulation of microclusters, interfaces and simple films
نویسنده
چکیده
We survey selected computer simulations or ‘experiments’ relating to the statistical physics of surface phenomena. An introduction to the Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulation techniques is presented, followed by chosen computer simulation applications which have been done mainly at the IBM Research Laboratory over the last several years. The examples are taken from studies of the structure and thermodynamics of microclusters, liquid-vapour and liquid-solid interfaces, and twodimensional simple films. An attempt is also made to provide an introductory theoretical framework for describing or understanding certain relevant features of a given simulation study. An up-to-date bibliography of the various topics is given at the conclusion. This review was received in May 1982. 0034-4885/82/101113 +49$08.00 @ 1982 The Institute of Physics 1113

Simulation of Fabrication toward High Quality Thin Films for Robotic Applications by Ionized Cluster Beam Deposition
The most commonly used method for the production of thin films is based on deposition of atoms or molecules onto a solid surface. One of the suitable method is to produce high quality metallic, semiconductor and organic thin film is Ionized cluster beam deposition (ICBD), which are used in electronic, robotic, optical, optoelectronic devices. Many important factors such as cluster size, cluster...
متن کاملAn Investigation of SILAR Grown CdO Thin Films
Cadmium oxide (CdO) thin films were deposited on the glass substrate by the modified SILAR method, using cadmium acetate dihydrate and ammonium hydroxide aqueous solution as precursors. The structural, surface morphological, elemental composition and optical properties of the deposited films were investigated via X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy, EDAX,...
متن کاملSimulation of Surface Plasmon Excitation in a Plasmonic Nano-Wire Using Surface Integral Equations
In this paper, scattering of a plane and monochromatic electromagnetic wave from a nano-wire is simulated using surface integral equations. First, integral equationsgoverning unknown fields on the surface is obtained based on Stratton-Cho surface integral equations. Then, the interaction of the wave with a non-plasmonic as well as a palsmonic nano-wire is considered. It is shown that in scatter...
متن کاملDynamic scaling form in wavelet-discriminated Edwards-Wilkinson growth equation.
We present an analysis of dynamic scaling of the Edwards-Wilkinson growth model from wavelets' perspective. Scaling function for the surface width is determined using wavelets' formalism, by computing the surface width for each wavelet scale, we show that an exact and simple form of the scaling function is obtained. These predictions are confirmed by computer simulation of a growth model descri...
متن کاملThe growth and modification of materials via ion–surface processing
A wide variety of gas phase ions with kinetic energies from 1–10 eV increasingly are being used for the growth and modification of state-of-the-art material interfaces. Ions can be used to deposit thin films; expose fresh interfaces by sputtering; grow mixed interface layers from ions, ambient neutrals, and/or surface atoms; modify the phases of interfaces; dope trace elements into interface re...
